Christmas 2009

Christmas all worked out in the end at our house. With Chris loosing his job unexpectedly the beginning of November, I was really worried about how it was going to work out. We couldn't have had Christmas without Peggy, she had given us some Christmas money and it was enough to make sure everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I had also bought the girls a bunch of dresses in the summer so that was a real bonus not having to buy dresses in December. This year it was just our family. We bought a 34.6 pound turkey from friends of ours that raise organic turkey's for Christmas. I slow roasted it and basted it every 30-45 minutes. It was the most delicious turkey we have ever had. We are sold. Next year we are going to buy 2 and make sure our one for Christmas is over 40 pounds. We also cut the wings off before baking that we cooked up later, but I will post about those later. It was a great no stress relaxing Christmas day.

Chris's surgery.

Ever since Chris was about 10 years old he has suffered severe heart burn. He never thought it was anything but heartburn until our dentist in Lethbridge, suggest he gets things checked out, as the enamel on his teeth is getting wore away. So after 2 years and 2 different throat scopes later, by 2 different doctors, we gave up thinking there was going to be any relief, as both of them said he was fine. A few more years later and we are living in Stony Plain, his heart burn is just getting worse and worse. So Chris decides to go to our family doctor here and talk to him. He sends Chris to a specialist. He gets a throat scope and was told right after that he has a hiatal hernia and that he needs surgery. So they send him for one more test to test his swallowing, which Chris says was the worst thing he has ever had to go through. We found out that so many of his problems were from this hiatal hernia. His sever heart burn, sleep apnea, tiredness from not sleeping, sever stomach cramping etc etc. We also found out if he didn't get the surgery, he would be at high risk for cancer. Finally on December 11th, he went in for surgery. It has been about 3 weeks and he is still recovering. He is doing well, just still needs more recovery time. It was a lyproscopic surgery, but they moved his stomach up and stuff. He was on a a strict liquid diet for the first 2 weeks and now he is slowly introducing more foods. It will be 6 to 8 weeks before he will be eating normally again. He has lost 21 pounds, 18 in the first week.

Lynnette turned 11

Well Lynnette had her 11th birthday on December 6th. She had her party on saturday the 4th. A small get together with a couple of her friends. Her friends had so much fun they didn't want to go home. And of coarse when I asked her what cake she wanted, she said a burger cake! Who doesn't want a giant burger for their cake??? I made the bun out of cake as well as the burger patty, and the lettuce, tomatoes and pickles are made out of fondant.

Ezra 10 months

I can't believe how much hair this guy has. None of my kids had that much hair, none, he is the only child under 2 to have some hair. Ezra loves to play with his siblings. It is so cute too cuz the others often get kinda crazy and he stays nice and calm happy. Ever since Ezra has been born I have told him he is my clam boy, and good little man, he is listening to me. hahaha He walks along the furniture and loves to come and sit on the floor next to me, whether I am cleaning in the kitchen or at the computer desk or where ever, he just likes to be close. Of coarse he loves for me to hold him and still insists I hold him a lot of the time. My favorite times are when I can just sit and play with him. It s hard to get those moments in with him, but I try to fit Ezra time in as much as I can.
